Frugal Orange Day Ideas: Get Thrifty

April 02, 2009

Spring is officially here! The days are longer and the urge to wear flip-flops is growing. Its time to start packing up the winter woolies and busting out the light linens and bright kicks.

But maybe you’re tired of opening your closet and seeing the same, tired clothes looking at you. Instead of running down to your local mall or overpriced department store, check out one of your local thrift shops. UGM has two, one in Surrey and one right here in the Downtown Eastside.

In the bargain bins you might uncover a Dior, Armani or Chanel. You never know…stranger things have happened. Shopping in consignment and thrift shops is a great way to find one-of-a-kind unique pieces to add to your closet, be green and support your local charities.

If you happen to visit UGM's Vancouver Thrift Store, you will likely see Gertrude. Gertrude has been modelling since the 1950's and presently resides in the window at Hastings and Heatley. She has many fans and loves working with an urban relief organization in the Downtown Eastside. To see more photos of Gertrude, click here.
