A Helping Hand

April 29, 2009

I decided to post this poem which was given to me at the Easter dinner by a lady who briefly made an appearance, and then passed this on to me. She did not stay for the meal, but just came and left this poem for me that I thought was quite moving.
- Bill Wong, New West

If you’re daunted or distressed or disillusioned,
If you need support to help you through the week,
Come, have faith in your community and listen:
You’ll discover the resources that you seek.

If you’re losing hope just look in New Westminster.
There are people who will help you find your way.
And the services to guide you to some answers
From salvation to a Mission to AA.

There’s a helping hand to offer what you’re lacking
From a bed or shelter, meals or clothes to wear
And a friendly face is waiting, if you’re wanting
And can ease your body, mind and soul, I swear.

These good dedicated people are committed
To do everything the can to ease your way.
Their belief is strong that everybody matters
And they won’t give up on those who’ve gone astray

There are meetings if addictions are your master,
And there’s guidance if it’s purpose that you lack,
And serenity and courage and some wisdom
And encouragement to get your life on track.

Pretty soon you’ll find your days are getting better,
As reduction of distress will help you cope
And recovery is possible with trying
When a helping hand is there to give you hope
