A Home of Blessing

June 18, 2008

One of the highlights of the month was the 6 year cake for Val J. at our weekly in-house AA meeting.  Besides our own residents, we hosted 22 visitors. – had a wonderful evening toasting this achievement with coffee and cake!  We encourage past residents to drop by or call whenever they wish, now and then we invite them to have lunch with us and, for sure, we encourage them to take their cakes here.Heather wrote this:
“I am a new resident of Lydia Home.  When I came two weeks ago I was looking only for recovery but to my amazement I have found God!  From the moment I walked in here I have felt this Presence.  I always have felt alone no matter how many people surrounded me.  Now I no longer feel this way.  This is not my first time trying to battle addiction but it’s the first time I feel I will make it.”

One of our shining jewels decided to write a thank you note to us for the help she is receiving –  Jacquie has made enormous changes as you will be able to tell for yourself when reading her heartfelt words.   Her entire life has been one of addiction, yet one of her daughters is as straight-edge as can be, does not even smoke cigarettes and it was she who placed her mother here after one of Jacquie’s sons OD’d three months ago.

Jacquie H. writes on May 27th:
“I have let God into my life for the first time, I did not know about Him before this.   Now I am very thankful to be able to rely on Him to keep me going into a positive healthy way.  God put me into Lydia Home because I needed recovery in many areas.  I have a long way to go to achieve positive thinking along with dealing with my past and letting go.  And that is a lot.

Here I have found people who I can honestly tell my feelings to.  The counselors and support workers are kind and caring towards me; my own counselor has become my friend.  I also have Frieda who is very serious and most helpful when I need to talk.  They all have helped me to understand the road  blocks which I have to go through.

Lydia Home has been a “home of blessing” to me.  I am changing my insane ways of my previous life style to thinking what would be the right and Godly way to live my life.  I have been in active addiction for 35 years and my life was completely taken over to being the hardcore drug addict that I was.

I did not really think that anything would change for me before I arrived here.  Now I know different.  I know that God is the creator of heaven and earth and of me.  He is my higher power and I pray to him a lot for what he has and still is doing for myself and my grown up children.”
