I think that our last month’s grad writes it so well – at UGM’s Lydia Home she was introduced to Jesus and now she has found a firm foundation on which to stand. She knows from experience that life is not a journey of ease, but rather the application of lessons we have learned the hard way. – Frieda B., Manager (Lydia Home)Stephanie shares:“Before coming to Lydia Home I was an empty shell; devoid of God and devoid of a grateful heart. My life was consumed by resentment, thoughts of revenge and pain. My only plans were as to when I would get my next high. My inner loneliness was simply unbearable. The crack addiction was everything to me, my friend, my confidant and my abuser as well. Because I never felt worthwhile or loved, I continued to lower my standards to accommodate my heavy use. Suicidal thoughts came daily to my mind.
Then I made the decision that I would live and Lydia Home welcomed me once again. I had graduated once before at the end of 2005. Once again I heard that I can have a life worth living by walking with the Lord. I have learned to embrace the pain I formerly ran from as well as to forgive myself and others wholeheartedly. I prayed for tolerance and patience. I once again learned how to deal with adversity without using drugs or alcohol. All the tools I will need were provided at Lydia Home to help myself and my two little girls to succeed in the program of life.
I have outlined specific plans for my future walk with recovery and God. I will continue to attend AA meetings and see an Addictions Counselor once every two weeks. I already am and will continue to attend two regular Bible Studies per week. I will continue to read the Bible and meditate daily and attend church services at New Heights Church here in Mission where I live.
My faith in God has given me the inner peace I have always sought for. He has extended His grace and mercy to my little family. My little girls will ultimately benefit from a mother who lives a life of freedom in Christ.”
