Over 1,600 people received a complete meal this Thanksgiving thanks to the fundraising efforts of John Chow and his network of bloggers.

John Chow is one of Vancouver's most notable bloggers, who writes about everything from making money online to what he ate for dinner last night. It has become somewhat of a tradition for John Chow to use his blog as a platform for supporting Union Gospel Mission: John asks his readers to donate to UGM, then forward their email confirmation receipts to him. He then matches their donations, up to $1,000 per donation. This Thanksgiving, John Chow matched over $2,300 in donations for a grand total of $5,600. Simply put, John is a generous man.

But there's more to the story than that of a web entrepreneur sharing his time, talent and treasure to UGM's cause; John grew up in this very neighbourhood. "I did not come from money," writes John on his blog. "I am where I am today because I know that in order to receive any blessings in life, you must first give. The more you give, the more you receive." John's story is a story of hope, as it is for many of the people his efforts helped feed this Thanksgiving.

I think I will always take with me gifts like this. Any time I have the opportunity to host a matching campaign, I will, and I'll rope in as many people as I know to to do it with me.
