The Weight of the World

September 03, 2009

We know that God calls all of us to be responsible – either now or later!  We've all got to bear the weight of our own actions and that can be truly overwhelming.

You will see from Tracy’s testimonial that this is what she experienced in her life before she came into our recovery program and that, when she heard of the grace and mercy of God, she found that at last she too could hand over her burdens.

“ Before I came to Lydia Home I was a desperately lost soul.  My life was unbelievably chaotic and the future was hopeless.  I lived for days on alcohol and all I could see was death waiting for me.  I had no hope and no control.  And God was nobody to me.

Here I learned that there is a hope and a future if you bow down and ask God for help.  With God’s help I can achieve my goals and dreams and maintain sobriety. I learned how while I was here.

Now I love myself and even love others once again.  I have learned how I can be a productive member of society and this gives me happiness for the first time in very many years.  I can live an honest and fulfilling life back with my own family and that is what I plan to do.

Thank you for loving women like me enough to have programs and caring staff to help us learn life skills we did not have before.”

Good to hear once again that this place is a refuge for hurting women.  We receive calls and drop-ins from women who have been here and are now in need of a friendly chat, reinforcing the good habits they are “practicing“ – and one never stops practicing!

Our residents helped serve at the annual BBQ that the Drop In Centre hosts every year – I saw quite a few of our former residents there with their families.  It's always rewarding to connect with them and their children.  It was a perfect day to be outdoors and have fun together.  The summer has gone by so swiftly, I’m checking behind me to see where it went!

Until next time,
