What is Legacy or Planned Giving?

Legacy or Planned giving is simply looking into the future and saying, “I would like to do something of significance for an organization or an individual, after my passing.”

Legacy and Planned gifts can be thought of as deferred gifts, or gifts given in the future. These gifts often stem from a desire to make a significant impact to a cause that you have faithfully supported. The most common type is a bequest made in a will for Union Gospel Mission (our legal name when writing into a will). Also, naming Union Gospel Mission as beneficiary in your RRSP, RRIF, trust, or life insurance policy is another wonderful way to leave a Legacy or Planned Gift.

Proper planning of a future gift can maximize tax savings and estate planning benefits, while providing significant long-term financial benefits to the Mission. There are many effective strategies to help you minimize personal or corporate taxes, while giving vital support to a cause you believe in. We can discuss whether creating a bequest in a will or the setting up of a gift annuity, charitable remainder trust, or gifting of property which has a large capital gain associated with it is good for your financial situation.
