Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Housing Facilities, the Maintenance Worker performs minor building repairs and maintenance at the Orchard House complex in Surrey. This position completes building maintenance work in the rental units for minor repairs in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical, and prepares units for tenant move-in. Making
adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing and electrical systems, and contacting tradespersons for approved major repairs are also key duties. For major repairs, defines scope of work requirements, and sources and supervises tradespersons. Other duties include routine maintenance including painting, drywall repair, fence repair, moving furniture and equipment/supplies and other maintenance projects. Ensures security and safety standards are in place.
Skillset
High school graduation and completion of formal training in aspects of building maintenance and a minimum of five years recent related experience is required. A TQ certificate or a building operator certificate is an asset. Knowledge and ability to inspect, assess, and determine repair requirements, and perform minor repairs for heating, cooling, and ventilating, with strong skills in plumbing, and electrical systems. Must have knowledge of the building code requirements for repairs, and be fully skilled in all aspects of painting, dry-wall repair, and the basics of carpentry and the ability to complete these tasks at a high standard.
We’re seeking a self-motivated individual who is able to work independently and prioritize repair requirements. With effective communication skills, and a personable professional manner, you understand that good service is also about solid relationships. Sound ability to read complex documents and instructions, and to write clear, effective reports and summaries is required, plus a Valid Class 5 driver license (class 4 preferred).
