Princess Avenue Interpretive Walk

October 10, 2008

The Princess Avenue Interpretive Walk on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 was a complete success. Over 200 Strathcona elementary school students had the chance to play, create, learn and laugh on the Downtown Eastside, changing the vibe from an often depressing environment to one that is invigorating and electric.
Funded by the city of Vancouver, the event showcased eight community groups which each had a tent and learning activities for the kids. At the Union Gospel Mission tents children participated in art projects centered around the them of kindness, while they enjoyed live music and hot chocolate. At the Vancouver Coastal Health booth, children had the opportunity to plant a vegetable seed of their choosing and to bring it home to care for it and grow. At the Port Metro Vancouver booth the children were supplied with cameras so they could record images on their walking tour through a historic part of Vancouver's east side.
