Renowned artist Pamela Masik to develop art class for vulnerable women

On Tuesday, June 26, 2009, artist Pamela Masik unveiled the first in a serious of portraits chronicling Vancouver's 69 missing women. "Mona," who went missing in 2001, and was murdered by Robert Pickton, was introduced to a group of friends and art connoisseurs at an art gallery in Gastown.

Pamela's art will be on display for sale at Terminus (32 Water Street) for the next three weeks. Half of the proceed from the sale of select pieces will providing funding for an exciting new art program at Union Gospel Mission which Pamela will both create and teach.

The eight-week painting class begins in July and will be provided for women in need who utilize Union Gospel Mission's Women's Drop-in Centre. Pamela has seen how art has been therapeutic and healing not only in her own life, but in the lives of others and is thrilled to offer this opportunity to many women who may even have been friends or neighbours to some of the women killed by Robert Pickton.

The art created will hang in the Union Gospel Mission facility.
