UGM hosts its 69th Annual Christmas Dinner, serving over 3,000 meals to homeless and struggling people on the Downtown Eastside and Metro Vancouver
What: As is tradition, UGM will host its 69th annual scrumptious Christmas dinner for the hungry, hurting and homeless of the Downtown Eastside.
When: Saturday, December 12, 2009, from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Where: Union Gospel Mission, 616 East Cordova Street
OTHER LOCATIONS:
• New Westminster Drop-in: 658 Clarkson Street (doors open at noon)
• Mission Drop-in: 33071 Railway Ave (doors open at 4pm on Friday, December 11th)
About the Event
Planned in coordination with other service providers, Union Gospel Mission serves its Christmas meal early in the month so as to not conflict with other community meals and to maximize opportunities for those on the Downtown Eastside. UGM will be assisted by a small army of 300 volunteers to serve about 3,000 meals at numerous locations.
The Meal
130 turkeys (2,135 lbs)
1,100 lbs of potatoes
650 lbs of vegetables
600 lbs of stuffing
50 gallons of gravy
225 lbs of cranberry sauce
2,900 dinner rolls
500 cherry pies
3,000 scoops of ice cream
5,000 cups of hot coffee
