At Union Gospel Mission, Outreach is all about developing intentional relationships– going out into the community and meeting people where they are. We initiate caring conversation with those in need, earn their trust through action and meet guests' practical needs (food, emergency shelter, and clothing).
In doing so, Outreach creates opportunities to share God’s love and offer a way out of addiction and homelessness through the life-transforming programs at UGM, none of which would be possible without the contributions of our valued partners – donors like you.
The Mobile Mission
One of Union Gospel Mission’s newest innovations in Outreach, the Mobile Mission first hit the streets in December of 2007. Five nights a week, from 10PM – 4AM, this fully outfitted recue vehicle travels through alleyways, along beaches, under bridges and into parking garages, seeking out those sleeping on the streets to offer food, warm clothing and encouragement as well as information on UGM’s life-changing programs, including our shelter, drop-in and meal services, and alcohol & drug recovery.
Streetlight Ministries
Since 1987, trained individuals as well as groups of volunteers have been taking to the night streets through Streetlight Ministries to share God’s love and act as a bridge to the transformative ministries of Union Gospel Mission.
Community Meals
Three times a day, 365 days a year, hungry people with nowhere else to turn know they can always come to Union Gospel Mission for a meal. And four times a year, UGM opens its doors even wider to serve thousands of meals to those in need as they join us for community dinners at Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and at our annual Summer BBQ.
It’s a time for great home-cooked food, fellowship with friends, and conversations with caring Outreach workers who can offer guests a way off the street, out of addiction, and into a brighter future.
