Beginning a new way of life isn’t easy and the path isn’t always straight – it takes hard work, lots of support and prayer. While guests at UGM take the steps to regain their health, their dignity and their future, UGM offers programs that minister to the whole person.
At our Women’s Drop-in Resource Centre, for instance, outreach workers not only offer the practical care of meals and clothing, they also lead Bible studies, have musical worship times, do crafts and even offer haircuts (one of our outreach workers, Jolene, was a stylist before she started at UGM). It’s all about caring for our guests and demonstrating their infinite value.
Guests begin to blossom as they’re shown respect and feel the freedom to express themselves. At the Women’s Drop-in, women have even begun to take a bigger part in worship times, learning to play instruments and share their voice through song.
It’s all about caring for our guests and demonstrating their infinite value in our eyes and those of God. As they experience successes – learning to play a song on the guitar, taking a beautiful photograph, creating a work of art – they begin to see their worth and start to believe in the incredible potential their lives hold.
