UGM Camp Sponsorship Guidelines 2012

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Camp sponsorship is for children and youth ages 6-18 from low-income families in Metro Vancouver and the city of Mission (note- this does not include other cities east of Langley/Maple Ridge, north of Coquitlam, or the islands. See the map for clarification).
  • Applicants may choose one camp per summer from UGM’s list of 17 pre-approved Christian sleep-away camps (see List of Camps 2012).
  • If applying for a single mom’s or family camp, please note that all children must be under the age of 10. Youth ages 11-18 are encouraged to apply for a camp designed for their specific age group. We do not sponsor day camps.
  • If you have paid for or are being sponsored by another organization to go to a camp this year, you will be put on a waitlist for UGM sponsorship.

Before You Apply:

  • If you are on Income Assistance or Disability, you must apply for a Summer Camp Subsidy through your assistance office. They offer up to $200 per child. If you are requesting the remainder of your fees to be covered by UGM, please have the Ministry cheque made out to Union Gospel Mission.
  • If you have a home church, you should request assistance from them before applying to UGM.
  • If you live in Burnaby or New West and are not on assistance, you should contact your local Camping Bureau for sponsorship. Find contact information and office locations on the map
  • If you are a foster parent, we require a minimum contribution of $125 per child (based on the current Foster Family Care Rates).
  • You are responsible for getting your child to the camp drop-off location, so please be sure you have access to the necessary transportation before choosing a camp!

Application Checklist:

  • New this year! Please register directly with the camp to which you are applying. See our List of Camps for contact information. Be sure to let the camp know that you are applying for sponsorship through UGM when you register. (Note- for Keats Camp, please send all forms to UGM for processing.)
  • If you are applying online, please complete the Online Camp Sponsorship Application Form 2012 on ugm.ca.
  • If you are mailing or faxing in your application, please complete one Family/Household Information form for your family, and one Camp Sponsorship Application form per camper (including adults for single mom’s or family camps).
  • If you have multiple children, please use the Additional Camper Sponsorship Form
  • If you applied last year, you don’t have to re-do the Family/Household Information, but please include your updated contact information on the Camp Sponsorship Application for our records.
  • Mail, fax, e-mail, or bring in your proof of income to UGM (copy of 2011 T4 or Notice of Assessment, letter/paystub from your assistance office, and/or statement showing other income from all income-generating members of the household). Applications will not be processed until proof of income is received.
  • Include your $20 processing fee (1 per family) and additional contribution towards camp fees (cash and money orders only, payable to Union Gospel Mission; we do not accept cheques). Contributions beyond the processing fee will be fully refunded if your application is not approved.
