Job Summary

Reporting to the Chaplain, this position involves ministering to the hungry, hurting and homeless women and families living in the Downtown Eastside. ‘Ministering’ entails forming relationships, loving, praying, declaring the good news of Jesus Christ and making disciples as well as assisting the guests with material needs.  The job may include making referrals for housing, clothing, shelter, recovery and a wide variety of other sundry duties as dictated by the needs of the women and families we serve.  The work will be based out of the Cordova Facility (Women’s Resource Centre); from time to time the Outreach Worker will assist Outreach at other locations.

You will frequently deal with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems.  There will be Outreach Workers and other Programs staff nearby to assist as required.

Skill Set

UGM is seeking a woman with a personal knowledge and experience of the saving work of Jesus Christ, and who has experience working in a community organization, foundation or ministry—preferable within the DTES or with marginalized individuals. She must be able to identify and solve problems, and follow through on initiatives. She needs to have a valid Class 5 drivers’ license, as well as good computer knowledge and skills. Fluency in a second language and the ability to play an instrument are assets to this unique role.

Due to the fragile nature of the clients we serve, and the sensitivities associated with previous violence and abuse, only female applicants will be considered for this position.

This position will have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults or children.  Therefore, the successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.

This position requires the incumbent to drive a UGM vehicle.  Therefore, the successful candidate must submit a current driver’s abstract.
