Job Summary

Reporting to the Coordinator, Families Ministry, the Outreach Worker, Youth and Camps, will be responsible for: 1) overseeing the Camp Sponsorship Program, as well as coordinating various seasonal events for Families Programs; and 2) working with the Youth Team to plan and coordinate Youth Programs and Outreach.  As UGM does not operate or own a camp facility, this position’s primary responsibilities include all of the logistics of getting children and youth who would not be financially able to attend camp without subsidy or sponsorship to summer camps in and around Metro Vancouver. The person in this position will oversee the registration of campers, the pricing and purchase of camping necessities. Additionally, in collaboration with the Families Team, this person will also plan and coordinate seasonal events, namely the Spring into Summer Retreat, for children, youth, and families connected with Union Gospel Mission.  As a secondary responsibility, this person will be a part of the Youth Team which will plan programs and outreach specific to female youth.

You will frequently deal with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems.  There will be Outreach Workers and other Programs staff nearby to assist as required.

Skill Set

We are looking for an individual who has a personal knowledge and experience of the saving work of Jesus Christ, and who is passionate about the Christian camp experience. The ideal candidate will have the ability to coordinate all aspects of a program, including the: preparation, application process, intake, maintenance of records, and report on activities. This unique role also requires the ability to build strong, healthy relationships with youth, and the desire and expertise to engage in outreach to youth and families through programs related to spiritual development and mentoring.  In addition, someone with a valid class 5 driver’s license and two-three years of directly related experience are assets.

Due to the fragile nature of the clients we serve, and the sensitivities associated with previous violence and abuse, only female applicants will be considered for this position.

This position will have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults or children.  Therefore, the successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.

This position requires the incumbent to drive a UGM vehicle.  Therefore, the successful candidate must submit a current driver’s abstract.
