Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Social Enterprise, the Social Enterprise Sewing Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing a social enterprise in partnership with the Manager, Social Enterprise, and the Wraparound Aftercare Worker. Oversee and work with residents and alumni from UGM programs by coordinating the teaching of sewing skills for the purpose of repairing slightly damaged items from a high end supplier and general donations. Teach sewing skills on domestic sewing machines. The purpose is that repairing items will provide participants with a source of income and skills development. Once items are repaired, they will be sold through one of UGM’s Thrift Stores.  As UGM expands in the areas of life recovery and housing for women and women with children, this program will provide skills, income, and increased self-worth for women who are progressing through UGM’s continuum of care.

At times you will come into contact with clients in crisis situations, brought about by diverse problems.  There will be Outreach Workers and other Programs staff nearby to assist as required.

This is an auxiliary (until August 2019), part-time (22.5 hours per week) position.

Skill Set

We are looking for a dynamic individual who fully engages in the work of UGM.  The successful candidate will have experience sewing on domestic machines for repairs and other projects, have good English skills, basic computer skills, and have experience instructing in sewing.

This position will have unsupervised access to vulnerable adults or children.  Therefore, the successful candidate must provide a current criminal record check that includes a vulnerable sector search as a condition of employment.
