People—and the complex, human need to be loved and known—are the heart of Outreach at Union Gospel Mission. UGM’s Outreach Workers build meaningful relationships with members of our community by coming alongside with conversation and care. Starting with a vital meal, but growing into so much more, UGM’s Meals & Outreach aims to meet the needs of the whole person.

Gateway assists individuals struggling with addiction and a host of barriers that can hold them back from a life of recovery. Guests are offered a safe place to rest, stabilize, and regain physical and mental strength while meeting with UGM staff daily to set and work towards attainable goals. Recovery is emphasized, whether that means applying for UGM’s six month Alcohol & Drug Recovery Program, or another more suitable program. Gateway provides support and tools to make this critical step into recovery and a new life.

I came to UGM for a meal, and I found my freedom. – Norman

365 Days of Meals

365 days a year, hungry men and women can come to Union Gospel Mission for a meal. Each meal is a time to build community, share home-cooked food, and develop connections that can offer a way off the street, out of addiction, and into a brighter future.

By serving three nutritious meals a day, we meet our guests’ need for daily bread and offer a connection to UGM’s range of transformative programs and services.

The Cornerstone is the steady heartbeat of our Outreach ministry, where guests can access a range of transformative services. UGM’s Cornerstone is a buzzing hub of drop-in services. Whether offering movie nights, daily chapel, warm jackets, or a cup of coffee over a game of chess, UGM’s Cornerstone provides the space for connection and care. Outreach workers build relationships with men and women, offering case management, chaplaincy, clothing and a warm, dry space to connect.

UGM’s Mobile Mission was going through the park I was living in, handing out sandwiches. They told me there was a UGM near me. And when I went there, it was incredible. It was so amazing to find that community. – Doug

Mobile Mission

The Mobile Mission is a fully outfitted rescue vehicle that meets people wherever they are sleeping—from beaches to bridges and everything in between—with food, warm clothing, and encouragement. In 2015, you helped UGM’s Mobile Mission build relationships by providing over 2,000 connections with people living in extreme forms of homelessness. These vital connections are often the first step towards a changed life.

Children’s Outreach

Union Gospel Mission’s Women & Families team comes alongside our community’s children to offer holistic support throughout their school years. Every weekday, kids in the community come to UGM to play, learn, and grow at UGM’s Eastsiders homework club, which offers critical mentorship and holistic life skills education. By building authentic, life-giving relationships with children throughout their school years, UGM is able to come alongside whole families with support, resources, and a hand up towards hope.

Every summer, kind-hearted donors partner with UGM to send over 500 kids to an amazing week at a BC summer camp.  A week at summer camp can give a kid the confidence they need to thrive. It’s a life-changing opportunity for a kid to develop new skills, make friends, learn from positive role models, and play in nature.

I really want to say thank you so much. It’s now clear to me how much things I am capable of and how much God loves me. – Alexander, 14
