Most Needed Items This Summer
Summer Months
Extreme heat is a serious health risk, especially for Metro Vancouver’s homeless and under housed residents. Over-exposure to heat and sun can be dangerous for anyone, but for those without a home a heatwave can be deadly.
To support our community, Union Gospel Mission distributes weather appropriate clothing and basic necessities to those in need. One way you can help is by donating extreme weather supplies to provide protection during the hot spring and summer months.
The following items will make a big difference in the health and safety of UGM’s guests this summer:
- Sunscreen
- Lip Balm
- Reusable water bottles
- Hats (baseball hats, summer hats)
- Men’s & Women’s Light, long sleeve shirts
- Men’s shorts and T-shirts
- Men’s & Women’s Sandals
- Underwear (new only)
*New and gently used items only please.
Most Needed: Frequently Asked Questions
Why do we specify new items?
We ask that you donate new and gently used items to ensure that all UGM guests are treated with utmost dignity and care. As a general guideline, only donate items that you personally would use or wear. Worn out items cannot be used and must be disposed at a cost to UGM. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity.
Do you need waterproof items?
Waterproof items are always in high demand. It’s no secret that Vancouver is a wet city, and no one knows this like those forced to spend most of their time outside. Waterproof jackets, gloves, shoes and more are all extremely useful.
What if I have a large quantity of donations that needs to be arranged?
Please contact [email protected] or 604-215-5440 ext 358. If you are inquiring or donating as a business, please contact [email protected].
Are there any household donations that UGM doesn’t accept?
Yes, unfortunately we can’t take everything. A list of items we can and cannot accept can be found on our Thrift Store page.
