To support our community, Union Gospel Mission distributes weather appropriate clothing and basic necessities to those in need. One way you can help is by donating extreme weather supplies to provide protection during the upcoming wet and cold season.

Most Needed: Frequently Asked Questions

Why do we specify new and gently used items?

We ask that you donate new and gently used items to ensure that all UGM guests are treated with utmost dignity and care. As a general guideline, only donate items that you personally would use or wear. Worn out items cannot be used and must be disposed at a cost to UGM. Thank you for your thoughtfulness and generosity.

What happens to the items if there is a surplus?

In instances where emergency items are received and distributed, yet a surplus of goods remains, items will be allocated to the UGM Thrift Store. This process helps to support the community in a couple of different ways. The UGM Thrift Store primary focus is to support low income community members to gain financial independence and have the opportunity choose items for their homes or themselves on their own schedule. Finally, 100% of the proceeds go back into supporting UGM’s life-changing programs and services.

Do you need waterproof items?

Waterproof items are always in high demand. It’s no secret that Vancouver is a wet city, and no one knows this like those forced to spend most of their time outside. Waterproof jackets, gloves, shoes and more are all extremely useful.

Why are donations dropped off at the UGM Thrift Store?

The UGM Thrift Store also acts as UGM’s Distribution Centre. It is the central hub where all donations are sorted and allocated to best help people in need. Please be assured, UGM’s number one priority is always to get appropriate items in the hands of those who need it most.

What if I have a large quantity of donations that needs to be arranged?

Please contact [email protected] or 604-215-5440 ext 358. If you are inquiring or donating as a business, please contact [email protected].

Are there any household donations that UGM does not accept?

Yes, unfortunately we can’t take everything. A list of items we can and cannot accept can be found on our Thrift Store page.
